35 Days in Medical School; How has it beeennn?

Hello everyone, welcome back to another post on the blog💃I know it’s been a while since I posted last🥰 and life has really been in the way (honestly, it has just been medical school showing me shege😭)

As most of you know, I started medical school officially more than a month ago and I’ve had less time to spend on the blog compared to when I was at home. Also, my last post on passive aggression wasn’t opening on the Substack mobile app and I wanted the team to resolve that before putting out another blog post.

Also, in as much as I love blogging and creating content, I have to strike a balance between my school work and my blog. Medical school sits pretty at the top of my list of priorities but at the same time this blog also has to be kept alive for my mental health because writing is an outlet for me- it keeps me sane❤ Please subscribe if you haven’t🤗

So, back to medical school. During my first two weeks here- I was always stressed. Every. Single. Day. Sometimes when I wake up in the mornings, I’m tired for the whole day alreadyyy and can’t wait for it to end. Even though, I’ve always known medical school would be tough- I didn’t prep myself😂😂😭 Here’s a couple of my tweets when shege level was very high😂😂😭😭

The first thing that threw me off  balance was our class schedules- we have classes every day from Mondays to Fridays. Coming from 100 level where most of our classes were via Zoom to attending classes every day in corporate wears and flat shoes, I had to adjust fast in order not to be left behind.

Here in Unilorin medical school, second year medical students write their first medical school exam in the 10^th week after classes officially begin- I’ll explain more in the comments. We are been taught three courses Anatomy (which is divided into Embryology, Histology and Genetics), Physiology and Medical Biochemistry.

The more I spend time in medical school, the more I realize that Hmmm- this is students in upper levels talked about. Right now, I think I’ve adjusted to the system to an extent and if you’re a medical school aspirant reading this- I’d advise you to ask other medical students for their experience and decide if that is what you want for yourself. I’d also be releasing more posts about medical school as time goes on.

For me, I think I’ve always loved the prestige associated with Doctors (This prestige has reduced so much now😭😭😂) and for a long time, I couldn’t see myself doing anything else. Also, I wrote JAMBs and I begged God that I cannot come and suffer all these Jamb registrations and not enter university for Medicine and Surgery oo. It has to work out plsss😂

All in all, I’d say I’m quite enjoying the experience. In as much as it’s a tough place- there are so many things that gives me joy. Weirdly, I’m enjoying my second year in university way better than my very chilled first year.
