Author of book- Nikki May
Wahala is a funny and brutally honest book about life as a mixed-race Nigerian-British female living in England. It follows the stories of three friends who met in the University. One of them introduces the other two to an old friend and that was when ‘Wahala’ started. I liked that the book was so unpredictable and even though I'm a sucker for happy endings, I admire authors who write tragedy so well because realism matters and the characters felt very real to me.
My favourite part of the book was when Ronke, Simi and Boo saw Isobel for who she really was. To be honest, when I started reading Wahala, the story was not gripping enough and I struggled to continue but as I was well into the book, I was enjoying myself because of its relatability and humour. My favourite character was Ronke because I could see bits of myself in her and though I wished more for her, I also realise authors need to be practical.
I constantly had to use the dictionary to check for the meaning of a lot of British terminologies and I enjoyed it because it made me learn so much more. I suggest this book to readers who are looking for something new, funny, exciting and has a bit of suspense. Wahala is a solid 7/10 for me. More grace Nikki May.
If you’ve read Wahala, what are your thoughts on it? And if you haven’t, today is a good day to read the book. Please leave comments!!!
